SF SHAFT-LINER SHOWCASE IN EMSBÜREN, GEMRANY: SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION AND A POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE DESPITE CYCLONE XAVIER

In early October, more than 20 visitors from local authorities, engineering firms, and associations from northern Emsland right through to the south of the Ruhr district braved the autumnal weather, with its storms and torrential rain: They accepted an invitation from SAERTEX multiCom GmbH and took the opportunity to find out more about the installation of shaft liners at first hand at the first “SF shaft-liner showcase”-

At 10 a.m., the client Wasserverband Lingener Land, the contractor Swietelsky-Faber Kanalsanierung GmbH, and the manufacturer SAERTEX multiCom GmbH met with 20 industry visitors in Emsbüren to answer questions about installing two GRP shaft-liners. A total of two shafts were rehabilitated on this day, with shaft liners based on the SAERTEX-LINER® Type S+ in DN 1,000/5mm installed into each one at a length of around 5m and with integrated cones in no time at all.

Both shafts had been constructed very recently, but they had to be rehabilitated after only ten years due to severe biogenic sulfuric acid corrosion (BSA). To prevent any permanent impairment to the shaft structures caused by the BSA corrosion, it was decided to line them with a light-curing GRP shaft liner as soon as possible.

One significant advantage or this process was that the operator Swietelsky-Faber uses the process-controlled UV-system technology for hardening the SF shaft-liner, which monitors all the relevant parameters such as the draft velocity, temperature, and pressure gradient. The light source is therefore no longer pulled through by hand as it used to be, which means that the quality standards expected of the end product can be guaranteed for decades now.

The SF shaft-liner offers a great advantage in this respect as it is prefabricated in the factory with millimeter-precision. However, the fact that the process is not reliant on weather conditions and only briefly obstructs traffic, thus making it quick to carry out – which is also helped by the minimal preliminary work required on the shaft wall – also offers benefits compared to conventional repair methods. There are also options to write off based on the product having a correspondingly long service life.

At 4 p.m., after a stormy but successful day filled with insights and information, it was time for the visitors to make their way home and for the companies involved to take stock: There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing. If you are interested in taking part in one of the upcoming “showcases”, please register your interest (without obligation) by sending an e-mail to multicom@saertex.com.
